Typical Label Construction
Printed graphics are only one layer or component of your label design. Our engineering team will review your Bill of Materials (BOM) from the top laminate to the bottom release liner. If your engineered drawing is not accurate by missing a key component, lacking instruction or unclear, this could lead to lost revenue or line down situations. It is also crucial to know what type of surface your label is being applied to and if it’s flat or curved. If you do not have an engineered drawing available, General Label will send you a drawing for your review, approval and records.
Printing Options
Screen Printing
Screen printing is a printing technique whereby a mesh is used to transfer ink onto a substrate, except in areas made impermeable to the ink by a blocking stencil. One color is printed at a time, so several screens can be used to produce a multicolored image or design.
Advantages:
- Cost-effective large runs
- Very high quality
- Extremely durable
- Wide range of materials

Digital Printing
Digital presses are similar to the color printer you have at home. The digital image is printed directly onto the printing surface, either through inks (inkjet) or laser (toner) exposure. Digital printing is ideal for graphics that require a high level of detail and precision.
Advantages:
- Quick printing
- Low setup costs
- Easy multi color printing
- Excellent for short runs
- Variable and customizable
- Endless design possibilities
- Outdoor durability
Disadvantages:
- Limited range of printable stocks
- Not as durable
- Large orders can be expensive
